    FROM THE MANAGER
    Lee Martinez

"We are now approaching . . . and are cleared for landing -fasten your seat belts".

Anyone who has traveled by air has responded to these words. First by making sure they are securely seated. And many times by dealing with a small dose of anxiety. "What if. .?", and then we choose the ending to that phrase. Let's face it when you're in the air, you're out on a limb. Your are not in control and usually feel far from your normal structured and stable existence.

Our need for control has led our society into the present dilemma. As the population grew we needed a system which would keep all our facts and figures in order and at our fingertips. We also needed a way to streamline and repeat routine tasks. Computers fit the need and advances in technology made them so easy to own that nearly everyone has one and everything is tied to or controlled by some sort of digital processing. At our fingertips there are great resources and unbelievable potential. Once again we as a society have the feeling we are approaching that point where nothing stands in our way of being completely free from any restraints. "Like god" is the status we humans have been grasping at for centuries and we feel a step closer. Who would have thought a small thing such as the way our computers handle the turn of the century could prove to be their weakness and one of the costliest corrections the nation and the world has ever seen?

As the experts make adjustments, their predictions have more the tone of guesswork than confident assertions. What will happen when the clock turns 2000? Fasten your seat belt, all we know for sure is we are approaching the new century and our foundation may be shaken. Or will it?

My question is, even with all the advances we make are we ever really in control? Who has the say over our lives? It's interesting that, should we run into system failures in January, no one wants to be at the mercy of those who could take control. I don,t blame them but I do want to have the mercy of He who is always in control. Of course it has always been and will always be the Lord. He made the greatest provision for us when He sent His Son and then accepted Him back once He had paid for each of us. With Y2K on the horizon I feel an even greater sense of how precious God's Christmas gift is. Christ is King and we belong to Him. That brings confidence and security. Don,t let the world steal your peace. Go into the new year praising God for our Lord Jesus Christ who freely gives us all things including His own life for our eternal safety.

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

I wish you peace and the ability to lift up your head and praise God for His exceptional gift.

    Christmas Greetings!

Charles Dickens said, It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child Himself. There isn't any bigger child during Christmas than me. I look forward to Christmas with a childlike anticipation that is unmatched anywhere. My heart starts pumping a little more blood through my body when I start thinking Jesus, birthday is almost here. The excitement builds and builds and I can't fall asleep days before the 25th. But those aren't the only reasons I think of myself as a child during Christmas. I eat chocolate, cookies and other candy much more than a normal person would. Sometimes I eat so much my wife has to hide all the sweets. I'm ready for Christmas Eve service 2-3 hours ahead of time and have to wait patiently before we can finally leave. I shake presents, I dress my Black Lab like Santa Dog and maybe the worst of all is I wake my wife up very early in the morning on Christmas day so we can start celebrating right away, all day!

One aspect of Christmas where I'm not as childlike is my understanding of why we celebrate Christmas. To honor and lift up the Lord's name because He came to this world to show us how much He loves us. And that gets me as excited as a child on Christmas day.

Have a God-filled Christmas, Scott Terry

Holiday greetings and best wishes for the new year from me and my husband John who is a volunteer here at WCIF. We are so happy to be able to be associated with this ministry. We have now been involved with the radio station for one and a half years and we have come to love and appreciate the folks who are so faithful in helping support the work with their time, talents and material blessings. This year at Christmas we hope to travel north to visit with our family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. While we are OEenjoying, the winter type weather our hearts will be thinking of our spiritual family here in the sunny south and trust you will all have a wonderful holiday celebrating the birth of our wonderful Lord.

There are two Christmas television programs that, although I have seen them many times, still make me cry. Of course, the first is the classic film "It's A Wonderful Life". The second is perhaps a bit lesser known, but just as powerful. Do you remember the first Christmas episode of the TV show "Happy Days"? It was aired in 1974, before the show had really caught on in popularity. In the episode, Ritchie Cunningham accidentally finds out that Fonzie has no place to go for Christmas.

Fonzie is too proud to admit that he will be alone, so Ritchie, much to the dismay of his father, hatches a series of schemes to invite Fonzie into the Cunningham home for Christmas Eve festivities.

I'm not one to recommend secular television viewing, but this is one of the most touching of all the Christmas programs I can remember. Not only because it is very well presented, but because the message hits so close to home.

I find myself away from family every Christmas, and it can be a very lonely time. I also struggle with being too proud to let people know I am lonely. Thankfully, God always provides a family that is willing to adopt me for a day, and it makes all the difference in the world.

Do me a favor. Invite the Fonzie in your life over for Christmas in your house this year. You'll never regret it!

    Cliff Lethbridge

"Are you ready for Christmas?" - I've been asked that question many times and I'm never ready. But I know Christmas is coming. It's a "ready or not here I come" situation. My getting ready list includes many things - a tree, gifts, wrapping paper, food, rehearsals, baking, the list could go on. But most of all I want to get ready to celebrate Christ's birthday. I want to prepare my heart to honor him. I want to celebrate Christ's birth in my life.

Some of my preparations are made. Some gifts are selected and wrapped. I've bought baking ingredients. My Christmas tree is ready. In fact, it's been ready all year! I came to a point in time and decided I'd be more prepared if I just left it decorated, standing there in my living room. My tree serves to remind me that I want in the same way to have my heart ready for Christmas all year. God expects us to be ready in any season to give an account of what He's done and is doing in our heart. We are to give testimony of His salvation which is available to all - at Christmas and all year through. As we approach the year 2000 Let every heart prepare Him room! Merry Christmas.
