WCIF SHARATHON Is just around the corner
FROM THE MANAGER Lee Martinez
Last year our prediction was probably for a year much like the years before with maybe a small improvement. We were not ready to imagine what could be in some men's hearts and how they could cloud our view. We are told and believe that things will never be the same. To many that will be interpreted as more cautious and suspicious of strangers. Since we are each "strangers" to all but a few dozen people that would backfire on all of us. I would hope instead that we would see each personal contact as more important and that we would seek to improve our sphere of influence. We could help make those around us more comfortable with us and possibly earn the right to tell the reason for our promising attitude. Every sunrise could help us remember our commitment by giving us a daily attitude adjustment. As the sun appears the dark just has to disappear. There is no room for it. I,m always amazed at how quickly it seems to clear the horizon and move up to warm the day. It's as if it bounces into the new day, reminding us to put all the enthusiasm we can into the next 24 hours. The spectacular colors and cloud shapes make me wish I could capture what I see but then make me realize that our God has given me a treat, the beauty of His creation to just enjoy. Hands off, be still and know that He is God. It helps me remember that though I exercised enough control to get out of bed, everything is under His loving control. And as I look to the east I remember Psalm 103 that reminds us God has cast our sins away ,"as far as the east is from the west". There are other illustrations here but these are thoughts that can help get your day started right. God is in control, He has forgiven you and has a plan for your day and your year. Live in the light stay close to Him and talk of His love often. Lee J. Martinez Back to Top of Newsletter KEY LIFE

Back to Top of Newsletter WAYNE PEDERSON - New President of NRB WAYNE PEDERSON has been heard on WCIF since we began broadcasting in 1980. He has also been a part of the Sharathon team for WCIF. After 34 years with Northwestern College Radio, Wayne Pederson has accepted the position of President of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB). His appointment is effective January 2002. "It has been my calling and my joy these 34 years to serve the ministry of Northwestern Radio. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a radio announcer. When God called me into ministry I thought the dream of radio was gone, but God has graciously used my interests and gifts to serve Him in Christian radio," Wayne says. "I never thought I'd leave Northwestern. It has been our career, our ministry, our family and our passion." After hours of prayer and discussion, Wayne and his wife, Norma, see the Lord leading them in this new direction. "It opens incredible opportunities to shape and impact ministry, the church and our culture," he says. "It will be a huge challenge to refocus on the next generation of Christian media. But I sense God's call and know that the enablement He has provided over the last five years (as executive vice president) will go with me in this new calling." Founded in 1944, National Religious Broadcasters represents 1300 evangelical Christian radio and television stations, program producers, multimedia developers, and related organizations around the world. Members are responsible for much of the world's Christian radio and television. WCIF is a member of the NRB organization. Wayne Pederson's program New Dimensions will continue to air on WCIF Sunday - Friday at 9:00 a.m. Back to Top of Newsletter

In Memory of
Back to Top of Newsletter One of God's miracles when WCIF was in its inception stages was the provision of an engineer Ed Hurt. Ed and his wife Maxine both have given many hours of volunteer service over the years to WCIF. Our prayers are with Maxine in the loss of Ed, but we rejoice in the life he lived and many things he did to further the Kingdom of God. Edward P. Hurt was born August 2, 1915 in Picabo, Idaho. His family started radio broadcasting in Jerome, Idaho in 1924. In 1930 they moved to Nampa, Idaho where they set up the radio station KFXD, using all homemade equipment and two 70-foot wooden towers transported from Jerome. KFXD was the 46th licensed station in the United States. During his career in the broadcasting field in Idaho, Ed had several firsts. He built the first FM station in Idaho and the first television station in Idaho. He built the first directional radio antenna system in Idaho. He built the first remote control radio station system. Ed also developed the first program automation system used in the United States. He was also involved with some of the first stereo, multiplex and facsimile systems in the United States. Ed was also an avid amateur radio operator. He helped install the first TV station in Korea. After selling KFXD, Ed and Maxine moved to Quincy, Illinois where Ed worked at Gates Radio Company (now part of Harris Corporation) for six years. During this time he serviced broadcast equipment in every state as well as Canada and Mexico. The next period of Ed's life in broadcasting centered on the microwave and cable television systems in California. Ed and Maxine lived in several locations in California during this period including Morro Bay, Santa Barbara, San Juan Bautista and San Ramon. Ed was involved in CATV systems extending from Los Angeles to San Francisco and as far east as Elko, Nevada. After his career in cable television, Ed worked with one of the premier broadcast engineering companies. During this time he was able to support missionary broadcast systems when he helped develop two radio stations for Far East Broadcasting Company. He helped install these in the Philippines and in Korea. Ed built much of these state of the art systems in his garage prior to being shipped overseas. On moving to Palm Bay, Florida, Ed continued his involvement in broadcasting. He became involved with the initial construction of WCIF helping with the entire construction from transmitter and antenna to studio. Ed remained the WCIF engineer for several years after its construction. Back to Top of Newsletter January 2 - John and Nancy Blake in honor of their thirtieth wedding
