The July 2001 Newsletter
Summer means vacations, time at the beach, picnics, family times, and also mission times. Many churches are involved in mission opportunities during the summer months. Remember to pray for open hearts as the Good News of Jesus Christ is presented many times through these groups. Remember to pray for WCIF Operations Administrator Martha Root and those who will be involved in a mission trip to Brasil this summer. Pray for safety and health for each group and a focus on Jesus that God might be glorified in all things! Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the
Lord in ceasing to pray for you, but I will teach you the good and the
right way.
We would be hard pressed to determine which is the most important and if we asked ten people we would receive ten different answers. So we provide a "spread" limited only by time and what is honest, sound and appropriate. It's your choice; you can be educated, entertained, or exercised to maintain your spiritual health all by what and when you listen. You can keep us in the background or listen deliberately, seeking that which will fit the need of the hour. Our intention is that you learn the connection between what you hear
and
There are things I feel are very important to get across to every listener. One of those is the gift God has given us to pray. More specifically having the ability to reach the throne on behalf of others. Some leaders have recognized our potential and called us to be "prayerwalkers." Others have realized how effective we could be as an entire population if we could imagine ourselves as sources of light, each person in their own neighborhood and each neighborhood covered by at least one "lighthouse" person. In fact as a matter of review we are asked to take time each day to pray for those neighbors nearest to us, picking the five to our right and left as well as the eleven across the street. Our first task is to pray, pray, pray. Pray for their well-being, families, needs. Pray for peace in their family. If your contact goes no further than this there's no need to press it but expect God to put you in personal contact with real live people who have been spiritually protected through your prayer power and personal concern. From the beginning we have been asked to imagine the protective umbrella we could be opening over our neighbors, our community, even our city and county if we each stayed at the task. There would be incredible victories in the lives of our newfound friends. The concerns we have for the well-being of our society would be realized. We could change the atmosphere in which we work and live. You can see how this could have a phenomenal impact and accomplish the very things that are close to our hearts. Why haven't we seen that happening? I think the key is staying at the task. We are in a spiritual battle and the easiest way to be defeated is to lose interest or not recognize your secret weapons. You know those weapons that the enemy cannot overcome. We may not feel the intensity of battle but intensity is exactly what we must bring to our prayer lives. We need help to become self-starters, not waiting for others to motivate us, just taking responsibility for covering our neighbors. This is a place where our time and energy can be well spent. I feel we have had to review this aspect because our involvement with others is so important. If God would grant our requests according to our heartfelt interest in seeing something accomplished would your neighbors see any personal victories? Don't ever be afraid of where your personal concern for others would take you or where you will find the time it will take, just do it. We need to see others as important in God's eyes as we know we are to Him. We are of the same human race separated in this life only by a decision we are trying to help them make. Put your best foot forward and learn to genuinely love people. Lee J. Martinez Back to Top of Newsletter IN TOUCH

Ravi Zacharias was born in India and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was twenty years old. He received his Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinty School. Ravi Zacharias has been honored by the conferring of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Houghton College, a Doctor of Laws degree from Asbury College and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Tyndale College and Seminary, Toronto. At the invitation of Billy Graham, he was a plenary speaker at the International Conference for Itinerant Evangelists in Amsterdam in 1983, 1986 and 2000. His latest book, Jesus Among Other Gods (August 2000), examines six vital questions, such as identity, origin, and evil, which Jesus uniquely answered in a way that the founders of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam have not answered.
