    A.W. Tozer
    A. W. Tozer
One of my favorite authors it A.W. Tozer. I thought I had every book he wrote but was surprised to find a "centennial celebration " article which listed a large number of books I of which I had never heard.
I discovered that Christian Publications has taken a number of his sermon topics and compiled them so we now have the benefit of the "pulpit " Tozer in book form. I immediately acquired three interesting titles and the following article is an except from his sermon series, "Rut, Rot or Revival.".

I've often wondered why Christians, especially those termed "lay leader" can sometimes be unwieldy. I feel we should have some of the original ideas and be the example in serving and helping people in our churches and communities. I find many times we do receive insights and solutions from the Lord but hesitate to incorporate them because the world does it differently and might see us as unprofessional. I wonder if Tozer hasn't found the problem and solution in this excerpt from the chapter, "Awakened out of Sleep".

    Bulk of Christians Asleep

What is the present condition of the evangelical church? The bulk of Christians are asleep. I do not mean that the bulk of Christians who come to evangelical churches are not converted, because if I meant that I would say they were dead and never had been born again. But I say they are asleep and yet intellectually, physically and theologically alert.

The present condition is that we are asleep. These sleeping Christians are doing two things that God must grieve over. One is that they control church affairs. We are democratic, and if we do not like our pastor we give him the bounce or pray that he will get another call. Then when the time comes we vote in whom we want and vote out whom we do not want. Church people control church affairs because they are intellectually, mentally and physically awake, but they may be morally and spiritually asleep. That is thay are so far down in the rut they do not see up.

Many people who are asleep control church affairs. It gets into whole conferences. Representatives will meet at the expense of the local church people. They will read minutes and pass resolutions, but they are asleep. You know they are asleep by the way they talk as soon as the benediction is pronounced and they have adjourned. You know they are asleep by their conduct, the things they are interested in or lack in, yet they control church affairs.

The second thing sleeping Christians do is set the standards for new Christians. When you bring in a newly converted Christian, he or she automatically takes on the coloration, general mood and temperature of the solemn seats around him or her. Pretty soon he or she is where they are, and once again there are no good examples of the Christian life.

Of course, people resent any word reflecting on them, but every once in a while there appears an awakened soul. Some way or another this person got awake. Somehow God Almighty wakened him or her, whether by the crowing of the rooster or by the braying of Balaam's donkey. This person ceases to be mediocre and somnolent and becomes a blazing, shining light. And then the sleeping saints pay to have him or her come do their work for them. They send people like this out to South Africa or the Far East to do their work for them. Meanwhile they stay home and sleep spiritually, and earn money, because they are intellectually and physically awake to send them.

When one of these people dies, they write the story of his or her life and may even go so far as to take up a collection to put a little library in the person's memory. They could call it the "Awakened Saint Memorial."But they are very careful not to be awakened themselves. They are perfectly happy to talk about how wonderful Robert Jaffray was, But they will not pay Jaffray's price. They can talk endlessly about wonderful Dr. A.B. Simpson, but they will not go Simpson's way. They are careful not to follow the person whose life they write about and whose memorial they erect.

But this is what Christianity is all about: the wakened soul, the morally and spiritually wakened. God, who seems so far away, suddenly becomes close. God who had been all out of focus, a blur, now is seen in clear sight, with healing in His wings.

    WCIF Welcomes New Announcer!
    by Scott Terry
Scott Terry Hello, my name is Scott Terry, I've lived in Indialantic for 18 years. A graduate of Mississippi College, I majored in Communications (Media) and minored in Business Administration.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior at the age of ten and was baptized shortly after at First Baptist of Indialantic, where I've been a member ever since. I enjoyed playing baseball for three different colleges.

I currently spend my time playing softball, cooking gourmet meals, fishing and hanging out with my Christian girlfriend. I also teach Sunday School to the junior high kids and coached them in basketball.

I have one brother (Mark) who is a junior at Mississippi College and plans to be a youth minister. My mother (Kathy) used to be a registered nurse and now has her own business. My father (Mike) used to play ball for the Chicago Bulls and still stays active with tennis and basketball and his own business.

This is my first salaried position and I know with God's guidance I will grow to be more and more of an asset to God and WClF.

    Letters

ORLANDO Please note our change of address. I don't even want to think of not having you to listen to now! You have meant so much to me ever since you began. May the Lord continue to bless you and multiply your ministry.

PALM BAY Thank you for your wonderful programs. Thank you for your ministry.

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH Another month has gone by. A prayer was answered. You hired David to take Jack's place. I am praying that he will settle in and be a blessing to all who hear him as well as those he has personal contact with. That is my prayer, also, for all who are heard over 106.3 F.M. I really hate it when you are off the air as WAIA comes in loud and strong in those times. I hate their programs as Christ is not evident in them. I pray that you all will get the land you need and the increased power that is really needed. I truly wish that everyone could get to know you all as well as I do because I have been blessed and touched every day, 24 hours a day.. Please remember that WCIF is the only Bible some people ever hear.

WEST MELBOURNE Thank you so much for your radio ministry. Our family spends much time on the road on weekends due to sports tournaments, but it's such a blessing to come back to Melbourne and find WCIF on the radio. I'm fortunate to have it on all day at work and in the car. It's the spiritual uplift that I need to keep me in tune to His word. Thanks again for the wonderful witness you provide. God bless you all. Also, a big welcome to Dave. We hope you'll enjoy the Melbourne area as you work for the glory of God.

ORLANDO (note to David) - We hope you are developing a love for the Melbourne area, and are making new friends there. What a great radio station to be working with. We lived in Melbourne and enjoyed WCIF for ll years. There is nothing to compare here in Orlando. WCIF has such high standards and walks in integrity year after year. Count your blessings to be teamed up with others who are making a difference for Christ. 1 Peter 1:6-9 In His Love

COCOA This is primarily a gift to WCIF from Marge. It is part of our overall tithe program, but is my wife's pet ministry, so you'll know it's from her.

PALM BAY I am receiving two newsletters each month. The correct one is: Thanks for your wonderful radio programs and music. It's great being inspired while driving!

ANONYMOUS Every year we come down to visit relatives from up North and have always enjoyed Jack every morning. He played the best music and gave up-to-date traffic reports which helped a lot. This year we were shocked to find Jack gone and someone named David in his place. The music is no longer soothing and inspirational, and what he says isn't cute, even if he thinks it is. It does not belong on a Christian radio station. At first I assumed that the management had changed, but it had not, only their Christian values. I will miss listening to WCIF, but I can't honestly support what is going over the airways P.S. My relatives and some of their friends have made similar comments and hopefully they will be writing as well to let you know.

INDIAN HARBOR BEACH I feel as if I must tell you some of what I've heard since David came to work. Most people know how dear WCIF is to me and they have felt free to express their feelings to me. Quite a few are refusing to listen to the radio mornings but do turn in whenever Cliff is on. Some have even changed stations. A number of my friends are going to quit supporting WCIF with not only money but in prayer. Some of the complaints are 1. Talks too much 2 has told lies on the air 3 brags about the singles group he has found 4 keeps talking about N. C. 5 plays music that has no inspirational messages - in fact some are New Age. These are only a very few of the complaints I've heard. I really have trouble defending WCIF when people say negative remarks. I am in daily prayer for WCIF and it's staff that it will once again glorify our Lord.

MELBOURNE We're so blessed to have WCIF to nourish us in our spiritual walk! Your programs are better each year! Welcome, David Carmichael, to the best 24 hr Christian station - anywhere! God's Blessings. Chuck Swindoll's teachings through the Bible is great FUN.

MELBOURNE Good listening, ministry all the time. I thank God for you and for the outreach of WCIF. Pray the station grows like "Topsy". In Christ's love.

PALM BAY I thank God for keeping your programs on the air. I continue to be blessed. I am praying for the technicians and equipment during the coming months. God bless you all.

MELBOURNE Enclosed is my commitment for 3 months. I am enjoying David Carmichael. I wish him continued success in serving the Lord. I will pray for WCIF during this summer. I do not get to hear you during the summer. I'll be looking forward to renewing with my programs in Sept. God Bless you all..

PALM BAY I appreciate and enjoy WCIF very much. I pray for all of you and as our Dear Lord continues to lead. Keep up the good work. God bless. I am sorry my pledge is so late.

VERO BEACH Have been so disappointed recently as I have been unable to receive your station in Vero Beach. It had been my favorite as I preferred the music and programs instead of what I could listen to on our local "Christian" station. Was wondering if you are aware that your station is not coming through clear in Vero anymore? Am enclosing a small donation in hopes that maybe someday soon we will be able to hear you again, and if not then those that do are certainly richly blessed.

PALM BAY Thank you for your letter regarding the success of SHARATHON 1997, and the book by Joseph Stowell. Enclosed you will find my pledge for the year. Please excuse the delay in sending in my gift. The programming of WCIF has really ministered to me-both the teaching and the music. In fact, to gain more benefit from it, I was wondering if you publish a daily schedule of the programming that you could mail to me. I would appreciate it very much. God bless as you and your staff continue to serve Him.

MELBOURNE BEACH - Dear WCIF Management, What in the world has happened to WCIF? I have always looked forward so much to listening to WCIF when I'm here. Your morning announcer is terribly unprofessional and very secular, as is the choice of music being played. Is it no longer the goal of WCIF to honor and glorify the Lord? I am shocked and very disappointed! I'm sorry, but if this continues I will no longer be able to support WCIF - listening or with donation.

    Pray!
    by Martha Root

CHRIST DIED FOR SINNERS - the red print sprang out attracting my attention. As I scanned back to the top of the page I read the words of the hymn by Dora Greenwell:

I am not skilled to understand what God has willed, what God has planned. I only know at His right hand is One who is my Savior.

I take Him at His word indeed; "Christ died for sinners," this I read For in my heart I find a need of Him to be my Savior.

That He should leave His place on high and come for sinful man to die You count its strange? So once did I before I knew my Savior.

The words hit home. The phrase Christ Died for sinners provides comfort. The red ink portraying the blood of Jesus shed on the cross for our (each of us) sins. I am not skilled to understand or to explain it in words, but I know My Savior. I still remember the overwhelming amazement when I was privileged for the first time to be used to lead someone to the Lord. I could not explain it- how amazing, how marvelous to see a soul ushered into God's Kingdom. It still elicits a sense of awe as I see God work. For I know there is no way humanly possible that I could give anyone eternal life. Yet God provides through his Son Jesus Christ who died for sinners! And he lets me be involved. Milton and I along with five others from our church will be with a group on a mission trip to Brazil during part of the month the month of July. Please pray with us that many will experience that life changing event - and find in their heart a need of Him to be their Savior.

    Thanks, Martha Root.
