FROM THE MANAGER

They are often deliberately discouraging. They make you feel alone in a crowd. They are colder than a Wisconsin winter. You'd rather avoid them but they are almost everywhere. Big cities seem to have a greater concentration but that's only because of the population density. Help stamp out "dead-eyes".

You've experienced the distant stare seen on faces when you're traveling, shopping, working or visiting that seem to tell you no one is there. The doors to the person inside are locked. The eyes look through you saying: you don't exist in their sight; a smile won't be returned or seen; a hurt is so deep the heart is gone out of their activities. The Bible says a person's eyes bring more than sight, they communicate. Deadeyes speak of people who are unconcerned, unavailable, uncommitted or undone.

Good news. . .not everybody is like that. Better news . . .no one is like that all the time. When you're among friends and loved ones the sparkle comes back. When there is hope the eyes reflect warmth that can be felt. When the joy of living fills a life, it's no sacrifice to give away an encouraging glance. Scripture illustrates hope, honesty and success using sight. "Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame" (Ps 34:5). "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of  turning" (James 1:17). Picture God focusing His attention on you and not being distracted for any reason. Do you see the comfort that comes from knowing how important you are in His sight? "A cheerful look (a twinkle in the eye) brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones" (Proverbs 15:30).

Jesus saw through people but never looked through them. With a look, Jesus changed Peter's life and his heart was jump-started. From there Jesus had only to challenge him and a new course was set and I'm sure the twinkle came back to Peter's eyes. In Revelation John describes the resurrected  Jesus including His eyes that were like blazing embers. Can you imagine a look so intense that it melts away the wood, hay and stubble of our existence and leaves only the important enduring qualities, making a much smaller package, and easier to carry?

Can we tell a person's spiritual condition by their eyes? Would you want to take that test? A person's countenance can sag under heavy loads. Would it be better to see how to lighten the load rather than  wonder why the joy is gone? When we see people do we ask God to let us see them through His eyes so we can know their need and do whatever it takes to comfort and encourage them? We need to remember the eternal difference Jesus can make in a sinner's life when they receive Him as Savior and Lord. That's when the light goes on permanently. It may be dimmed occasionally but will never again be put out. We want you to always be encouraged. That's why we program the way we do so you can shine for Jesus.

Lee J. Martinez

Matthew 5:17 - In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
2 Chronicles 16:9 - For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

THANK YOU
To all our faithful friends who have helped me celebrate my twentieth anniversary with WCIF, thank you for making this a special time. My biggest concern is how quickly the time has gone and keeping up with the changes that we have seen in those years. What an enjoyable time this has been with its challenges and rewards. I think the most important blessing of the work has been the knowledge that it has been twenty years of purpose. People have been changed and drawn closer to the Lord because we have been allowed to let Him speak to our community. You know I didn't get this far alone. I thank God for the individuals that make up the WCIF staff. I would have lasted perhaps a week without their help. This is a joint, family effort and everyone who has prayed or shared of their means has a part. I have been impressed by the many wishes that we prosper another twenty years. That is my wish as well but I know practically that it will only happen as you pick of the vision of what God can do and shoulder the load with us. Thanks for making these first twenty  possible! - Lee

 Congratulations:
To announcer Scott Terry who begins his seventh year with WCIF this month.
