The air quality in our area has changed. For awhile we will have to put up with a problem those in Los Angeles, Denver, New York experience much of the time. You may notice a haze in the air. Our blue sky seems more gray and at times you can see the pollution settled in like fog. There's relief available when the winds and the humidity pick up. All this will collect and blow away. |
When we become more aware of our delicate environment we are more receptive to instructions, and words like "avoid", "watch". "control", "conserve" and "minimize" are positive and helpful. There are times these same words would seem negative and oppressive.
God has put our living conditions together in such a careful manner and with such precision that if anything is out of balance just a little, we feel the tremors. We are being made aware of what effect we are having on our air, land, water and wildlife. Though we may not agree on how to cure our ills, everybody knows something needs to be done.
We know how clean air and water make us feel and we want it to always be that way. In my teens I remember camping trips which would take us miles from home. From those experiences I thought every creek and river was clear enough to see the bottom, cold enough to refresh you and clean enough to drink without a second thought. I haven,t seen that for years and I miss it. I want to do something to help restore that environment and let children see what I mean rather than just telling them how it used to be.
But where would we start? Everything needs attention now and the task is overwhelming. Special interest groups want us to start with their pet project first. But each area needs equal attention and right now. Does God say anything about restoring our living conditions once we have depleted them? Is there a missing element or key? I think there is, because most people need to know about another essential for living.
There is another area subject to pollutants. We as human beings must manage it in order to survive and prosper. It's in the area of our minds and hearts. We are in danger of polluting our minds because whether we want it or not we are in a society that is straying further from God and closer to man-defined pleasures. Romans chapter 1 gives us some terrible insights into what happens when men love themselves more than God. It talks about the mind and heart being corrupted but you can see what effect being so self-centered could have on our surroundings as well.
When God has your heart and mind He promises to set everything else in balance for you. It can happen for an individual, a nation, the world. The filters that can clean the mind and save the soul are in God's hands. When He is pleased with us He can do what we have seen is impossible on our own, He can restore what we have lost. Through Jesus Christ we can be restored to a relationship with God. In a right relationship with God, He can bless our land.
For good reason the principles of 2 Chronicles 7:14 are getting our attention today. I think God is warning us to get the main things right and He will take care of the rest or else our very surroundings will cave in on us.
Mind pollution can creep in at work, during your leisure time even at home where you feel safe. It comes through the TV (soaps, comedy, talk shows, and investigative reports come to mind first), from certain forms of reading material and from unchallenged discussions with others.
To protect your environment, you must be aware everything is not for your ears and eyes. You must determine to avoid things which appear to be evil. You are the one who needs to practice control for your own good. You can conserve and use your time wisely on things which will at least not hinder your relationship with the Lord. You can minimize the effect the world has on you by remembering your adversary the devil is out there looking for a means of luring you into a destructive lifestyle. Greater is He that is in us than he in the world. Keep your spiritual battery charged. A phrase in Romans 12:2 reminds us to "be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Even more important than paying attention to your surroundings is giving attention directly to the Lord on His terms. I,m always amazed that He wants contact with me . I,m always rewarded when I make the effort and have contact with Him through His Word and prayer (or quiet listening time). I,m always able to face challenges more easily and with better results. So our first priority should be getting things right with the Lord. He can take care of the rest. Someone out there besides you needs to hear about this.
Lee J. Martinez
2 Chronicles 7:14 --If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Proverbs 4:23 --Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

WCIF Information
Our new program automation system is installed and running. Those who
listen during our unmanned hours will appreciate it most. No more two events
at once or long silent times. You might say we got our money's worth out
of our old system. Anyway thank you for your patience and prayers. Now
pray that we will be able to take advantage of all the functions built
into the new system. It's all designed to make the sound clean and clear.
Our power increase is stalled while we try to make the best of our tower location. What had first been available to us has been changed and we,re trying to make some adjustments. Pray that everything will straighten out and we can get on with our upgrade. It's just as frustrating to us as it is to those of you who are waiting for a clearer signal. We will also be anticipating an increase in audience as we reach out further.
