MISSIONARY CAMPAIGN SENDS FIX-TUNED
RADIOS TO RADIO ALPHA
The Olympics are over, the winners decided and we who enjoy sports have
been treated to the cream of the crop in compe- tition. Each
one of the
events
brought out phenom-enal and varied talents. You could tell each
person had honed their skills in specific areas. Did you notice
that no
one tried to enter everything? Skaters may have watched the bobsledding
but they didn't compete with them. Snowboarders did great on
their own
course but none of them attempted cross-country. Each event required
unique talents.
There was one thing common to each sport. It was their timing.
Each had to
be precise in what they did. It didn't matter if the event was
a team or
individual effort, the timing had to be perfect or talent alone could
not
carry them. Everything had to be synchronized and everyone involved
had to
know when to make their moves. It was timing for skaters and
skiers,
sledders or snowboarders. One way or another the clock was always
ticking. A missed mark was a missed opportunity.
During the games one of the funniest commercials had to do with bad
timing. A man who runs through the toll booth before he releases
his
coins, the boy friend who waited too long to tell his girl he loved
her. Big mistake!
We are at a point that requires critical timing. Our once a year
SHARATHON
is days away. We have managed with the Lord's grace to keep this
time to a
minimum, raising our annual budget with one fundraising campaign.
I
should say you have made this possible. We have gathered the
talented,
gifted messengers surrounded them with inspirational music and constant
prayer. You have provided us with the opportunity to disseminate
their
timely messages to those for whom it was intended. You have become
as
important as any other member of the "team". Your financial gifts
and
commitment to pray for WCIF are now the critical part. You
provide the
timing. It's time to step up and help us make a success of our
twenty-third year of broadcasting. From the beginning in 1980
we have
counted on God's willing people to make it happen.
Would you determine in your heart to be in touch with WCIF during the
three
days March 11 - 13 Monday - Wednesday and pledge to help us in the
coming
year? Our volunteers will make the call a pleasant experience
and as you
listen to the SHARATHON we promise to do our best to keep things enjoyable
and honoring to God. We have probably never been in more need
of your
help. Would you help us recover and move triumphantly in to our
new
year? It's time.

Our thanks to our Day Sponsors who have underwritten the cost of a
broadcast day on WCIF. If you, your church or business would

- 725-

Last year as part of our SHARATHON outreach we were able to supply solar
powered radios so those who had no other means of hearing the Gospel
could
be reached. We received confirmation that our 220 radios were
a portion of
one thousand units that were given to qualified individuals and families
in
South Africa.
Station Manager Jan Otto writes, "The majority of our listeners and
potential listeners are very poor and live in a mix of urban, semi-urban,
rural and farming settlements. A large majority of the people
in our
broadcast area are illiterate. Radio is therefore the most effective
way
by which they can be reached effectively with the Good News.
Fix-tuned radios were and will be provided to:
(a) people who cannot afford a radio and/or batteries;
(b) people who cannot operate a radio due to a lack of electricity;
(c) people who are in prisons and
(d) people who are institutions where there are shut-ins."
The radios were distributed in December. The delay was because
radios
cannot be assembled until they are paid for. Then there is the
delays
of overseas shipment and distribution. Pray for thousands
who can now
gather around these radios and hear the Gospel in their own language
from a
local outlet of Christian radio. Radio has the potential of reaching
every
person in the world with the Good News.
