Joni's Life Story |
Thanksgiving is coming! And it's time we decide what we're going to be wearing... what kind of attitude we're going to be wearing, that is. Because like it or not, an attitude is something that's right out there for our friends and family to see. |
We're neck-deep into an attitude and there's nothing we can do about it. Yet there's something that we do have a choice about: We can choose what sort of attitude in which we robe ourselves on any given day. Oh sure, Thanksgiving is a special time of the year and it reminds us to have an attitude of gratitude. But how about the day after Thanksgiving when caught in the holiday shopping rush or next month or even as we move into next year?
Maybe we all need a reminder from God's Word of someone who really knew how to wear the right attitude all year long. It's the story of Joseph. He had every reason to choose to be grumpy and out of sorts. For instance, Joseph was the most conscientious shepherd around. In fact, he did such a good job of shepherding that his jealous brothers sold him into slavery. So what was his attitude? Joseph chose to be the best slave he could possibly be.
In fact, he was such an honest and hardworking slave that he got thrown into prison for doing the right thing. So what attitude did he choose then? He concentrated on becoming a model prisoner - the best in all of Egypt. And how was he repaid? Not with parole, not even with an honorable mention on the warden's good behavior list. Instead he was forgotten by the very ones who should have remembered his faithful service, and Joseph remained in prison for another two years.
God seemed less concerned with Joseph's release and relief, and more concerned with his attitude. Little did Joseph realize that God did not forget his grateful spirit all those years. Because the day finally came when, in a single hour, Joseph went from a corner in the dungeon to the right hand of Pharoah. Not a one of those years spent as a shepherd or a slave or a prisoner was wasted. All those hardships and the discipline and endurance that resulted - were needed to mold Joseph for a key role. God watched Joseph's attitude and God recognized that, in every situation, every circumstance, Joseph chose to be thankful.
I can't help but think that those around Joseph - his brothers, fellow prisoners and the Egyptian royalty - noticed the "robe" he was wearing too. It was a robe of consistent, rich gratitude to God.. And any of us can wear that same robe -- if we're willing to choose an attitude of gratitude. After all, you want to wear your best this Thanksgiving season.
Joni Eareckson Tada can be heard on Joni and Friends weekdays at 1:00 p.m. on WCIF.

Upgrade Update
Our new upgrade equipment has been delayed and is expected to begin arriving by the beginning of November. We expect this will cause a delay of about two weeks in increasing our power. Since our engineer is in Ecuador until the beginning of November this will work out better for us anyway. Pray that there will be no further delays. We already have our toll free number installed to help those who will hear from outside our local call area.
