ENCOURAGE YOUR PASTOR
Dr. Kent Hunter

Management expert Peter Drucker has noted that being a pastor of a church
in America today is one of the most difficult careers.  From our work helping Christians in churches, it is my perception that pastors are extremely challenged in five key areas:
  1.  The church is a volunteer organization.  Volunteers require special motivation, leadership, and are difficult to discipline.  You can't fire that cantankerous elder!
  2.  Pastors today work in an environment that has greatly changed.  America has changed from a nation friendly toward the church to a country that is secular.  Today, the U.S. is the third largest mission field in the world.  Only two countries in the world have more self-declared non-Christians:  China and India.
  3.  Your pastor is not prepared for this American mission field.  Pastors are not trained to be missionaries. Your pastor is educationally handicapped.
  4.  The people in your congregation have a variety of worldviews, many of which are unbiblical, especially as they relate to the church.  There are 10 unbiblical worldviews held by many members of churches.  That creates tension, and your pastor has little training in conflict management.
  5.   The church is also difficult to lead because of spiritual warfare.  The evil one doesn't want God's kingdom to grow and the strategic place to cripple God's mission is the local church.
Approximately 60-80% of the Protestant churches in America are plateaued or declining.  That is a depressing environment for pastors who have God's call upon their life to expand the kingdom.  Obviously, in these churches, something must change for them to be effective toward this secular culture.  Your Pastor has not been trained in two key areas: leadership and being a change agent.  Pastors today have two career choices:  (1) Don't rock the boat, and watch the church decline.  (2) Make changes, knowing that they invite a negative reaction from those who resist change.
October is
Clergy
Appreciation
Month

Each year, during Pastor Appreciation Month, many great spiritual leaders
provide wonderful ideas on how you can encourage your pastor.  Here's a
list of extraordinary steps that are a little different from the norm.

  1.  Start a process through which members promise to pray for the church and  the pastor --by name - every day for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Help the pastor get training in becoming a change agent and in the area of leadership.
  3. Encourage the pastor to take one day off in every seven.
  4. Sit  toward the front during worship.  Dead air space between the preacher and the people is debilitating.
  5. Make sure the pastor has office support help.
  6. Start a dream team.  Find the most positive, spiritually mature and forward thinkers in the church.  Encourage the pastor and the dream team to get away regularly and focus on God's possibilities.
  7. Refuse to gossip.  Refuse to listen to gossip.
  8. Volunteer to help - before you are asked.
  9. Volunteer once a year to show up at the pastor's house on a Saturday and help personally with the "Honey-do" list.
  10. Tithe, and  encour- age others to do the same.
You can make a difference.  Pastor appreciation is not just a month.  It's a lifestyle!

Dr. Kent Hunter,   is heard weekdays at 4:02 p.m.  on WCIF on The Church Doctor.   www.churchdoctor.com

LETTERS FROM OUR LISTNERS

MELBOURNE - Thank you for introducing our family to Christian Radio when we moved to Melbourne in 1991.  You blessed our lives.

MELBOURNE - Still receiving a lot of comfort and joy from your programming.  It is my faithful friend.  Bless you all for preaching the true word.

PALM BAY - God Bless!  Thank you for teaching me obedience and bringing me to Christ through the way of Christian Radio.

COCOA  - Thank you with much appreciation for this precious work.  Where Christ is First.  From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for the airing of Moody Broadcasts: Moody Church Hour, Songs in the Night and the Sound of
Majesty.  Praying you will once again be able to air Pacific Garden Mission also on Sunday Evening.

SATELLITE BEACH  -   We do miss WCIF and all of you just so very much.  We are still in Virginia for a while longer.  What a thrill and excitement to look back on the life of WCIF and see God's blessings!  Our best to each of you - and may God bless!

ST. CLOUD  - I enjoy your programs very much.  I am 90 years old and don't
get out to church very much.  So your station is a "lifeline".

MELBOURNE  -  I'm on vacation & sure miss your station.

MELBOURNE  - Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus.  Find enclosed $ as my
part of day sponsorship.  May God Bless you all for your daily broadcast.  It's my daily companion as I drive around also through out the nights.

NAVARRE, FL - Just want you to know how much we miss the spiritual food we received each and every hour of each day while living in Melbourne, and
listening to WCIF.  Must confess we took you for granted.  We are so thankful to our Father God for the growth you provided in our Journey.  We miss WCIF radio greatly, as we have not found another station in the north west section of  the Panhandle that can compare.

BAREFOOT BAY  - Keep up the good work.  I just want you to know I love your station but just sometimes - some of the songs you play get to me.

MELBOURNE  - Once again I look forward to telling you how grateful I am to
be able to listen to your station each day.  I feel truly blessed.

MELBOURNE - This $ is in honor of the good Samaritan who changed my tire
last Sunday on my way home from church.  He said "You can go to church 8
days a week, but if you don't put it into practice, and never do anything for anyone, it doesn't count.  "You gotta pass it on." He refused our offer of money and as he left he said "Put that in the collection plate next Sunday."

COCOA BEACH  - John Fisher's writing was right on the nose!  Thank you for
speaking (writing) out on the subject.

PALM BAY  -  As a constant listener I am happy to renew my pledge.  WCIF
has been a blessing to me.  I have said it already, and I will say it again, I would not trade WCIF for another radio station.  Please pray for me I am having a problem with my back and leg.  Enclosed is $ to help carry on the good work.  May God bless your ministry richly.

PALM BAY - God Bless you all.  I thank you for praying for me and my family.  I will keep listening.
