Do we all live as close to the edge as I do or is it just one of my personality traits? |
I think about the potential God has placed in each one of our lives. If we didn't wait until the last minute, if we were always aware of what is most important, what impact could we have? How do we keep from living on the edge? How do we maintain balance and control? How do we find time for everything and give quality attention to each task? If we could find answers to these questions we could know we were doing our personal best and that's what God expects of us.
Chuck Swindoll has a book called, Living On The Ragged Edge where he reminds us that we are unable to avoid the press of life but we are able to use it to our advantage. I'm glad I found that out because I used to think the ideal was when everything was orderly, nothing in my schedule ever overlapped and there was no pressure. I discovered the only way that happens is when you are doing nothing and going nowhere and that's not the right answer to balance and control.
What I found I must do is keep in touch with what the Lord is doing in my life and around me, then maintain a set of measured goals and a purpose that help me decide if what takes up my time is helping me meet God's expectations of me. In order to do this I have to go against my nature and have a set aside time to look at spiritual things. It's more than a quiet time but that is included. My nature says that any time I'm not active I'm wasting something, but that's a lie. Time spent with the Lord in prayer and planning multiplies itself and helps me fit my responsibilities back into a practical time framework.
When will we learn everything comes from the Lord, our time of rest as well as our times of effective work. I still cut deadlines close but not as often and I've learned that God has molded me to work best under certain pressures. He has done the same with you because pressure is natural. Just be sure it helps you move in the right direction and learn to enjoy doing your part and trusting the Lord for the rest.

Concentration
Charles W. Anderson
It has been our intention from the beginning to help the Christian community look for the good things, focus on them and develop a triumphant faith. The verse we have adopted is from Philippians 4:8. The following article gives further insight into the teaching of this principle.
What types of things do we let command our attention?
When the scribes asked Jesus, "Which commandment is the greatest?" they were probably expecting the Old Testament answer to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength." That was the answer He gave, with one significant addition: the mind.
Why would Jesus make the mind part of the expression of our love toward God?
As we read the Gospels, we see the emphasis Jesus put on the condition of the inner man. If we follow His teachings, what we think about will be a primary concern.
Thinking about thinking leads us to Philippians 4:8,9. The Apostle Paul lists a number of things we are to think about, to concentrate on. The word concentrate is derived from a combination of Latin words meaning "to bring together at a common center" As we study God's Word, concentrating our minds on its truth, we are "brought together at a common center."
The list that the apostle gives is in stark contrast to the values embraced by our culture. With the impact of television and sound bites, we are accustomed to not thinking. As Christians, we need to challenge ourselves to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Cor. 10:5), rather than allow our minds to roam freely.
Thinking Christianly is the duty of every Christian, and that process begins with God's Word. Paul's program to get our minds in shape concludes with the admonition to meditate on these things. That word is an accounting term meaning "to take an inventory, to estimate, to calculate."
Whatever is true. This reflects the capacity to separate fantasy from reality. Millions are prisoners to their own fantasy worlds, through drugs, alcohol, or unbiblical relationships. The ability to think truthfully escapes them. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." He is the answer to an inability to live in the realm of "whatever things are true."
Whatever is noble. The word carries the ideas of dignity, respect, and a sense of balance. So many times we are drawn away to things that throw our walk with Christ off balance. Equating the Christian mind with mobility will not be easy, but the Word of God brings this balance to our lives.
Whatever is right. When Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified, Mark records Pilate's action as being driven by "wanting to gratify the crowd." That is the opposite of justice. Knowing what is right and doing it is what Paul has in mind. God calls us to the life of uncorrupted integrity.
Whatever is pure. Paul had this to say to a young pastor named Timothy: "Keep yourself pure." Our culture is not going to give you any help in this area. Psalm 119:9 asks, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."
Whatever is lovely. The word implies that which brings accord, not strife. Earlier in Philippians 4, Paul encouraged two women in the congregation to get along; they were not behaving in a "lovely" manner.
Whatever is admirable. One writer defines this as "That which is good for God to hear." Paul encourages us to speak positively and constructively.
Are we spending our energies in these areas? Are we thinking with purpose? Martin Lloyd-Jones writes: "The gospel comes to you and says, 'Are you harboring thoughts you shouldn't? Did Christ die in order that you should go on thinking in that way?'"
Paul's life was a reflection of what went on in his mind. He leaves us with this promise: "And the God of peace will be with you."

MELBOURNE- Because of failing health I am moving to Omaha to live... I cannot express how much I am going to miss your station, which has been my constant comfort and source of inspiration and instruction! I have been alone for nearly 10 years since my beloved husband went home to be with the Lord and WCIF has filled many lonely nights and hours! I go to a very loving family who love the Lord, but I will miss my wonderful friends, church and "y'all". May God continue to bless and meet your many needs.
PALM BAY - Thank you again for your programs - what a blessing to me as I am alone. I thank you for your prayers and I pray for you all there and for the functioning of the station equipment, especially in the coming weeks. God Bless you all.
INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH - WEST MELBOURNE - My earnest prayer is: Dear God, give me the

their old age. Play tennis, play golf, play games but the only thing that
lasts is what is done for Eternity. Let us cultivate and promote an awareness
of what is genuinely worthwhile and enduring. Do what the Lord calls us
to do for others...not our own enjoyment.
